Reggie You Can't Change Your Past, But You Can Change Your Future

Reggie Dabbs with John Driver

Description :

Reggie Dabbs’s life changed when in the second grade he realized his parents were not his real parents, and that his birth was the result of a twenty-dollar deal his sixteen year old unwed mother made to secure the food she needed for her three other children. Interwoven with humorous and thought-provoking anecdotes and illustrations, as well as stories from the Bible and his travels around the world, this is the true, chronological story of Reggie and his message for students and adults alike that they are powerless to change their past, but they possess a unique potential to change their future.

After reading this book I feel like you can do anything and not feel that what happens in your past will shape your life for the future. Reggie is a book about Reggie Dabbs, a professional saxophonist and motivational speaker, who uses stories of his upbringing and his skills as a musician to reach out to children. Reggie Dabbs as well as John Driver, have done an amazing job of recounting his personal story of transformation. Reggie's life began as the young child of a young woman who becomes a prostitute to care and feed for her children. The young mother realizes she is unable to care for another baby and gives her son Reggie up for adoption. Reggie was told that he was adopted when he was in second grade. Reggie had struggled with the facts and he felt worthless and he was trying to find his self worth.  Reggie learned there is unconditional love in the world- as shown by his adoptive parents.  Reggie did not use his circumstances as an excuse to stay in a never ending pity-party. God did miraculous work in Reggie's life as he chose to move forward. The transformations that occurred in Reggie's life are remarkable.  Now Reggie is using his personal story to bring glory to God and inspire thousands.  Reggie does a great job bringing us into his life and showing that choices matter and determine our outcome in life. One pain; two choices. This is a fantastic book for anyone, for any age. The book is easy to read and hard to put down. Every chapter has a set of questions at the end that will help reflect and apply truth in your own life.
